Campidoglio Shipwreck

Launched in 1909 by Arsenale di Lloyd Austriaco, Trieste as KARLSBAD. Displacement 3819 GRT., 344.5 ft x 45.5 ft, single screw, passenger / cargo ship, speed 12 knots.

When in 1919 Trieste became Italian, the ship-owner transferred the vessel to Lloyd Triestino, Trieste. In 1921 she was renamed CAMPIDOGLIO. On the 23rd February 1931 after navigational mistake the ship wrecked at Cape Akin near Bourgas on voyage Trieste - Odessa with passengers and general cargo. During the 1931 many salvage attempts were made but in December the vessel was completely destroyed by the heavy storms.
